Introduction:
Could you please introduce yourself and share a bit about your background and interests outside of work?
I am Shinhye Kim, the Manufacturing Group Leader at the Ajinomoto Cellist Korea. I joined the company in 2014, and this year marks my 10th year
here. Before joining Ajinomoto, I worked in a completely different field, so I gained most of my knowledge about media and media production after I
joined here. Fortunately, Ajinomoto's research lab has many specialists who have spent decades studying cell culture media and its production. I have
been able to acquire a wealth of knowledge directly from them, which has brought me to where I am today. Besides work, I enjoy watching movies—not
just for entertainment but also to explore behind-the-scenes stories and the hidden intentions of directors, often watching them multiple times.

Experience at ACK:
You've been with ACK for a significant amount of time now. What have been some of your key experiences and observations during this
time?
time?
I have been with ACK for nine years, overseeing the procurement and management of raw materials and establishing production plans. Since last year, I have taken on the role of Manufacturing Group Manager, also managing the production site. The most significant change compared to the past is the
increase in the number of products. As more customers use ACK's media, the number of products has increased more than sixfold compared to 2014,
resulting in a corresponding rise in the amount of raw materials and inventory. Despite this, my primary goal has always been to enhance customer
satisfaction through flexible and swift responses. I have consistently approached my work with this goal in mind and strive to ensure that it continues to be met, regardless of the changes in circumstances.

Leadership:
As a leader in the manufacturing sector, what unique perspectives or challenges have you encountered? How do you navigate and
overcome these challenges?
overcome these challenges?
There are many challenges and difficulties in both work and organizational management. While it would be great to solve all problems instantly, the
most important lesson I've learned is that I can't solve everything alone. Engaging in conversations with people from different positions and
departments, listening to and respecting their opinions, often reveals unexpected solutions. I cherish these moments and feel a great sense of
accomplishment when I can refine and implement these solutions effectively.

Manufacturing Challenges:
What do you see as the main challenges in manufacturing for ACK? How do you plan to address these challenges?
To meet the increasing demands for custom media production, a key challenge is to more than double our current productivity. For hardware
improvements, this could involve expanding new production lines or adding new equipment. On the software side, we need to analyze and improve
processes to use resources—such as time and labor—as efficiently as possible. Within the manufacturing group, we continuously work on process
improvements and efficient resource utilization, leveraging the know-how we've accumulated over the past ten years. For hardware improvements, we are exploring various methods in collaboration with other groups in the plant, such as maintenance and QA.

Manufacturing Processes and Standards:
How do you plan to enhance the existing manufacturing processes at ACK? Are there any new methodologies or practices you would like to introduce?
The current manufacturing process involves simultaneously inputting and mixing dozens of raw materials, which, while stable, is time-consuming and
thus less productive. We are considering pre-mixing intermediate products to enhance workflow or automating the packaging process to minimize
human error and reduce labor time.

Work-Life Balance:
How do you maintain a work-life balance, especially in a demanding role like Manufacturing Group Leader? What hobbies or activities do
you enjoy in your free time?
you enjoy in your free time?
I often feel a great deal of pressure because any trouble that arises in manufacturing can critically impact safety and quality. As a way to cope, I have
developed the habit of writing a diary, which might even be considered a hobby. Writing in my diary helps me sort out my emotions and objectively
separate my work and personal life. It allows me to manage my mindset so that the pressure doesn’t become overwhelming.
